Thanks to everyone who made it out to Folk Science on Saturday. It was a lot of fun and I couldn't think of a better way to get my feet wet. To everyone that missed the opening you can still catch a more mild viewing [Click Here For Details]. Some photos are below.

Also I hope to be getting more photos of my artwork up in the near future. My schedule has been crazy. I still have managed to add some much needed sections to my blog. Including my artist statement, a list of exhibitions, and a current exhibition info page.

Artist Statement

There is a theory eagerly being discussed within the scientific community about the properties of matter not being solid. That nuclei exit from our existence and return constantly without anyone being sure as to where it goes. This theory of matter being transient and inconstant is something I enjoy exploring in my work.

I use geometric objects contrasted with organic to represent what we commonly perceive as matter. However; I take these geometric objects even further into representing our existence and society on earth as being rigid, and uncomfortable. To me, the organic objects represent theoretical thinking, souls, and existences beyond what is physical, beyond the geometric objects.

The figures in my art not only give the viewer a personal relation to the piece, but are also shifting in and out of existence, and sometimes even transcending the physical.

My work also explores the mind, free thought, and escaping the mind's sometimes oppressive patterns. The brain, a ball of string, and a bird are all symbols for the mind in different states.

So today I finished some album (possibly real album) art for my friend's band Turn Thieves. They are a really awesome post rock band based in Gainesville Florida. Let me know what you think.

Every now and then I am inspired to do. Today is one of those days. I know I haven't updated as much as I'd like, but I am working on getting good photos of all of my new projects. So I decided to get one all the way done so at least I could say I have accomplished something.

I forgot the name of this one. Its graphite on Bristol 19x24. Kind of illustrative and fantasy like I suppose. I am also working on some new stuff that will hopefully get done in time for this...

I'm stoked. My first non school related show where my art will be displayed. Please come.

Updates n Such

Well believe it or not I have quite a few things going on. I've been really lazy about updating so let me try to remember it all. I'll start off with this -

So this is one of my finished screen prints (my professor took the photo and for some reason decided it looked best with a warm saturation). This particular photo is going to be sent to a college in China (I'll update with the name and location) and printed, matted, framed, and hung there. This is for a sister city art exchange that my college participates in. The other good news about this particular print is that it won first in Graphics in the school art competition. So all and all I am pretty excited.

Also I did some design work for a local artist whom I really admire. Kim Laurenti who is really amazing. It is a little poster (her concept) of her sculptures she sells on Etsy called Mooks. Click the image for a link to her store to buy one!

Besides that I am going to be getting more of my figure work photographed and build a new portfolio. Also I am doing more Wacom tablet work.

This is kind of an experimental piece. I think I found some nice techniques for the modeling, but besides that I don't really know how I feel about this. The face looks odd to me.

I guess finally I will state that I will be attending Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota Florida in the fall. So I am gearing up for that. I am constantly looking at student work and there is so much talent there. It is going to be hard to compete.

Anyways, I'll try and update more. I wish I had more subscribers.

Screen Print Design Finale?

I made a good amount of changes, as you can see. Steven's suggestion to me was not included because I couldn't quite get it right. But either way I think it turned out okay. Yay? Nay?

Hopefully starting on this today.

PS - I listened to Green Bird (from Cowboy Bebop) on repeat for like an hour or so last night while finishing this.

Well finally this terrible year is almost over. I guess I should be thankful for what good has come to me. Case in point my new Wacom Tablet. I gift that me and Santa split the difference on.

So above is what I am working on now. A kind of mix between photo and computer illustration, there will probably be some design elements in there. I am kind of just playing around to see what I can do.

So it appears that in my busy last two months I have not updated my blog much. If you noticed the banner (which I swore to myself I'd keep up with) still says October.

But don't think I've been slacking in art. I've been building my portfolio, and working on a ton of stuff. My figure Drawing final for instance was a 10 piece series inspired by Ashley Wood. I really need to retake the photos of that.

So I am going to try really hard to get some stuff posted on my down time, and also keep myself doing art. Doing Doing Doing I cannot stop...I will not!

Let me know what you think of this one. Im still deciding whether or not I accomplished what I wanted. I had to do this in a Triadic color scheme for Color theory. The blue outlines were a pain because I had one of those crayon like things that come with prisma colored pencils to do it with.

This is my (mostly) finished piece on hands for Figure Drawing. I had some more finishing touches I wanted to do, but it was like 3 a.m. and I was at the point of it being acceptable. Currently it's hanging up at my college so I won't be able to work on it for a while (and may not be interested by then). I think in my tiredness last night I realized I might want to be an illustration minor.

This is my second assignment in Figure drawing and the third revision of it. He really made us work hard on this one. Though it has some problems, I am quite satisfied with it. This is the final version. With all the reworking I'm pretty sure its at least 15 hours of work.
